One-Straw Revolution: An Introduction to Natural Farming

I had come across the title, “One-Straw Revolution: An Introduction to Natural Farming” by Masanobu Fukuoka, but only last night read more details about this fabulous Japanese farmer. At time of publication, he had not plowed his fields for 25 years, yet the productivity of his land was at a level as high as the best farm production levels in Japan. Of special interest was his claim to not make compost. Yet one can say that he does make compost but with much less effort. He allows the stubble and straw to just stay in the fields. He applies some chicken or duck manure, and nature does the rest in the fields. No turning. No shoveling of compost. No applying of compost in the fields.

The Soil and Health Website has a copy.

Is “Sustainable Agriculture” an Oxymoron?

“Jared Diamond calls it ‘the worst mistake in the history of the human race.’(1) Bill Mollison says that it can ‘destroy whole landscapes.’(2) Are they describing nuclear energy? Suburbia? Coal mining? No. They are talking about agriculture. The problem is not simply that farming in its current industrial manifestation is destroying topsoil and biodiversity. Agriculture in any form is inherently unsustainable. At its doorstep can also be laid the basis of our culture’s split between humans and nature, much disease and poor health, and the origins of dominator hierarchies and the police state. Those are big claims, so let’s explore them. . .” . Read the full article here

Excitotoxins, Neurodegeneration and Neurodevelopment

by Russell L. Blaylock, M.D. “There are a growing number of clinicians and basic scientists who are convinced that a group of compounds called excitotoxins play a critical role in the development of several neurological disorders including migraines, seizures, infections, abnormal neural development, certain endocrine disorders, neuropsychiatric disorders, learning disorders in children, AIDS dementia, episodic violence, lyme borreliosis, hepatic encephalopathy, specific types of obesity, and especially the neurodegenerative diseases, such as ALS, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and olivopontocerebellar degeneration.” More . . .
